Office software — word processing, spreadsheet and database management, and presentation software export formats are:
- Office — docx, xlsx, pptx, odt, rtf
- Imaging — Photoshop = psd, Gimp = xcf , along with the generic formats such as gif, jpg, png, tiff
- Desktop Publishing — Indesign format is indd, while Scribus is sla and the usual export formats include — pdf

- Open Office — Functions much like MS Office but available for free.

- Adobe Photoshop is the standard. It is essential for pre-press work for print publication (esp. color profile matching), but it is expensive. Other imaging applications for photo touch-up and web publication work just as well.
