Lacunae & errata

The author is solely responsible for typos, errors and omissions in this book.  Fellow scholars will understand that the author is grateful to those who point out problems so that they might be avoided in future editions.

Typos in the second edition :      

Introduction p 1 Allan Nevis not Alan Nevis.

Chapter 1, p  31,  Korean Alphabet:  “A similar moveable type system was developed in Korea in 1377 using brass characters and woodblock printing, but, Korean, like Chinese, is logographic.” The sentence should have reflected the invention of the Hangul alphabet in Korea by King Sejong the Great in 1443.  The alphabet effect theory  is central to a broader media effects theory advanced by Marshall McLuhan and others. It has been criticized for its ethnocentric perspective by scholars such as Joseph Needham and  Paul Grosswiler (2004).”

Ch 8, p 297,  Pearl Harbor:  date of Pearl Harbor attack should be Dec. 7, 1941.

Typos in the third edition :      

Ch 8 p 311 – War of the Worlds broadcast was Oct. 30, 1938.
