{"id":3569,"date":"2023-10-19T16:15:12","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T16:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/?page_id=3569"},"modified":"2023-10-20T12:41:44","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T12:41:44","slug":"podcasting-lab","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/podcasting-lab\/","title":{"rendered":"Podcasting lab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The RU podcasting lab<\/strong> has five booths equipped with Electro Voice RE27N\/D dynamic microphones and Xenyx X1204 audio mixers.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a video review of the RE27N\/D and also a manual for the Xenyx mixer, both below.<\/p>\n<p>The university computers in the booths should have both Adobe Audition and\u00a0 Audacity installed.<\/p>\n<h3>To get started:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li data-wp-editing=\"1\">Switch on the power button at the back of the audio mixer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_3575\" style=\"width: 266px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixerMap-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3575\" class=\"wp-image-3575\" src=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixerMap-1-300x232.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixerMap-1-300x232.png 300w, https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixerMap-1.png 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3575\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Xenyx X 1204 Mixer<\/p><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>You don&#8217;t need to turn on the phantom power button &#8212; these microphones do not need it.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the Mixer&#8217;s\u00a0 USB &#8211; C\u00a0 \u00a0line out is connected to the computer you are using.\u00a0 (it&#8217;s a USB A on the back to a USB C for the computer).\u00a0 You can use your own laptop or the computer in the lab.<\/li>\n<li>If you are using your own laptop, you will need to change the input sources for both the system sound and the Audacity app.<\/li>\n<li>If you are using the university computer, and you want to use Audition, your login procedure is a little unusual.\u00a0 Yes, you have already logged into the computer. Now you have to log in to\u00a0 Audition. When you get the Audition login box, type only &#8220;radford.edu&#8221; &#8212; not your usual name and login.\u00a0 Audacity should take you to the regular Radford University login page, where you do the standard login. (So yes, that&#8217;s three logins.)<\/li>\n<li>The microphone(s) inputs are the large XLR plugs at the top of the mixer.\u00a0 Reading the MIC channel 1 down past the 1\/4&#8243; jack, and the low cut filter, you&#8217;ll need to turn up the Gain to about 12 o&#8217;clock.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_3573\" style=\"width: 188px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixer_.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3573\" class=\"wp-image-3573\" src=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixer_-225x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"178\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixer_-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Podcast.lab_.mixer_.png 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3573\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Xenyx Mixer with everything in the &#8220;off&#8221; position. It should look like this when you are done. Don&#8217;t forget the off switch in the back.<\/p><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>For now, leave the equalizers where they are (they should also be at about 12 o&#8217;clock.)\u00a0 The Aux\/FX knobs should be off and the Pan knob should be at about 12 o&#8217;clock. The Mute button should be off.
