Switchers, mixers and encoders are relatively cheap these days. (See Livestreaming gear pages on this site).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/formedia\/tools\/facebook-live\">Facebook<\/a> <\/strong>has made live streaming simple. Navigate to the page, group, profile or event where you want to publish your live stream. Then tap the Live button at the bottom of the post composer. Add a description to your video. You can also tag friends, check in to a location and add a feeling or activity. Tap Start Live Video, then tap Finish when you want to end. One small downside is that the audience must have a Facebook account to see the livestream.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/enterprise\/stream-virtual-events\">Vimeo \u00a0<\/a><\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0 \u00a0There are a number of serious challenges involved in scaling up an event from several dozen in a classroom-sized group to several hundred in a conference, and Vimeo&#8217;s idea with\u00a0 Virtual Events is to make it easier to handle these.\u00a0 They have a ticketing gateway (Eventbright or several others) and a way to display recorded and simultaneous livestreams from a multi-event conference. The event can also be broadcast on multiple streams (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc).\u00a0 See this <a href=\"https:\/\/livestream.com\/blog\/how-to-live-stream\">Vimeo ultimate guide to live streaming.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/\">Twitch.tv<\/a> <\/strong>&#8211; Live streaming service that focuses on video game live streaming, including broadcasts of esports competitions, in addition to offering music broadcasts, creative content, and &#8220;in real life&#8221; streams. It is operated by Twitch Interactive, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc.<\/p>\n<h3>Conferencing software<\/h3>\n<p>Conferencing software is \u00a0designed to broadcast the camera and desktop views\u00a0 of\u00a0 a host computer to a group of other computers connected through the Internet.\u00a0 Sometimes this involves blends of in-person and online in either real time or asynchronous frames.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wikipedia has <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Comparison_of_web_conferencing_software\">a comparison of web conferencing software<\/a><\/strong> available. Universities tend to use Zoom for classroom instruction, but software for internal business conferencing or for external professional conferencing are important markets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Educational and Professional focus\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/pricing\/zoom-contact-center?_ga=2.224771546.191812963.1647949637-1368279656.1642512604\">Zoom <\/a>software allows live streaming to a large but non-public\u00a0 audience.\u00a0 Free livestream sessions have short duration and bandwidth. A paid individual account starts around $60 per year.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BigBlueButton\">Big blue button<\/a> &#8211; Open source conferencing program designed for education<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Skype\">Skype\u00a0<\/a> (Microsoft) for small business and home<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Business focus\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li class=\"TrT0Xe\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Microsoft_Teams\">Microsoft Teams<\/a> \u00a0for larger scale and longer duration team conferencing\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/support.skype.com\/en\/faq\/fa34551\/what-s-the-difference-between-skype-microsoft-teams-and-skype-for-business\">Difference between Skype and MS Teams<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/Atlassian.com\">Atlasian<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211; Team building software allowing full remote collaboration<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verizon.com\/business\/resources\/articles\/blue-jeans-verizon-solution-brief\/\">BlueJeans Meetings (<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verizon.com\/business\/resources\/articles\/blue-jeans-verizon-solution-brief\/\">Verizon <\/a>) &#8212; \u00a0provides an interoperable cloud-based video meetings service that connects many users across different devices, platforms and conference programs.<\/li>\n<li class=\"TrT0Xe\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webex.com\/meetings.html\">Webex Meetings<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0(Cisco). Inclusive teamwork\u00a0 across environments, languages, abilities, and personalities.<\/li>\n<li class=\"TrT0Xe\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/GoToMeeting\">GoTo Meeting <\/a>&#8212;\u00a0 Remote monitoring and management for small businesses &#8212; online meeting, desktop sharing, and video conferencing software that enables the user to meet with other computer users, customers, clients or colleagues via the Internet in real time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>IT focus &#8211; Remote access<\/strong> for repair and maintenance<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/TeamViewer\">TeamViewer<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0allows remote maintenance and control of other computes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Presentation via video\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prezi\">Prezi<\/a> &#8211; Presentation software with more snap than Powerpoint, now available for video conferencing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Persistent chat\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Slack_(software)\">Slack\u00a0 &#8211; persistent chat<\/a> Slack teams allow communities, groups, or teams to join a &#8220;workspace&#8221; via a specific URL or invitation sent by a team admin or owner.\u00a0 \u00a0Slack\u00a0 has been adopted as a community platform, replacing message boards or social media groups.\u00a0 \u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-:1_29-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-33\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Discord\">Discord <\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<b> &#8211; <\/b>voice calls,\u00a0video calls,\u00a0text messaging, media and files in private chats or as part of communities called &#8220;servers&#8221; (collection of persistent chat rooms and voice channels which can be accessed via invite links.
