One was taken inside an open shelter along a hiking trail and the other was taken of the view just behind the shelter. Transparency &gt; Add Alpha Channel.\u00a0 <\/span>This A<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lpha channel\u00a0 <em>sometimes<\/em> allows parts of the photo to be transparent.\u00a0 (Again, not really recommended for this exercise. If you need a free application switch to Photopea.com).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Use the level adjust command to lighten the exposure on Julian1.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/PSlayerspallet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-394 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/PSlayerspallet-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/PSlayerspallet-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/revolutionsincommunication.com\/viscomm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/PSlayerspallet.jpg 494w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a>In the Layers pallet, click and drag to move the Julian2 layer UNDER the Julian1 layer.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Next we want to remove the washed out areas around the windows so we can see the Julian Alps behind.\u00a0 Select (click on) the Julian1 layer. Use the &#8220;magic wand&#8221; tool or other select tools to highlight the window area, then use the delete key. You can also use the eraser tool.\u00a0 You should end up with transparent spaces in Julian1 on Layer 1, and you should start seeing Julian2 come through the window areas.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Photoshop:<\/strong> Select tool PS Magic wand tool, click on white window spaces and then hit your keyboard delete command.\u00a0 This should reveal the underlying layer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gimp<\/strong> is similar &#8212; use the Fuzzy Select Tool,\u00a0 click on white spaces and then hit your keyboard delete command.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>\u00a0Problems?\u00a0<\/strong> Some versions of Gimp are not working on some versions of the Mac OS.\u00a0 In that case, use the eraser tool rather than the fuzzy select tool.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>Zoom in and out and touch up parts of the window areas with an eraser.You can also resize (PS Edit \/ Transform,\u00a0 Gimp = Image \/ Scale ) or\u00a0 do other things to either layer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Save your psd file as a backup.<\/li>\n<li>Merge the layers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Export your final combined\u00a0 file as a png, heic, Webp or jpg. and post it on your portfolio site as Ex 2e.<\/p>\n<h3>More info<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Photoshop tutorials\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/creativecloud.adobe.com\/cc\/learn\/photoshop\/web\/combining-images-basics?locale=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Combine images<\/a> in Photoshop<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/photoshop\/how-to\/ps-layers-basics.html\">Layer basics<\/a> for Photoshop<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Gimp tutorial<\/strong> on combining photos<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GDjgcfF7BpM\" width=\"480\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working with layers to combine images \u00a0 Let&#8217;s combine two photos taken in the Julian Alps.
