What you’re graded on:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Quality of the photo, including subjects,\u00a0 composition, contrast, and optimization.<\/li>\n
  2. Optimize and level-adjust your photos. (Optimize at around 100 to 700K size, level adjust for best exposure).<\/li>\n
  3. \"\"<\/a>Upload the photos in a WordPress gallery.\u00a0 (To create a gallery when you edit a page or post, click on the “add block” cross and look for the gallery format next to the image format. )<\/li>\n
  4. Show that you understand the principles of photo composition you’ve learned in class<\/a>. Get close to the subject, use dynamic balance, simple backgrounds and leading lines. Look for contrast and repetition.<\/li>\n
  5. Tell a story with your photos. Take closeups, medium and long shots of the same subject and show what is happening. For example, a landscape photo of a beautiful sunset should have several shots of people watching the landscape. A photo of a person might have a closeup, a medium shot doing homework or having fun,\u00a0 and a long shot of them walking to class.<\/li>\n
  6. Don’t just post stuff from your old photo collection. Post photos that you have taken for these assignments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Photo Gallery <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

    3.1 <\/b>\u2014 Portrait<\/strong> —\u00a0 <\/span>Take several<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>portraits of a person<\/span> or pet using good composition and lighting techniques.\u00a0 \u00a0This should be up close and reveal something about the person\u2019s emotions and nature.\u00a0 \u00a0Use either the closeup or portrait settings and try to use simple or unfocused backgrounds.\u00a0 \u00a0 Present in gallery format on your web site.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    3.2 <\/strong>\u00a0–DSLR photos —<\/strong> Borrow a (free) DSLR camera from the School of Communication or McConnell Library.\u00a0 Then take photos in the four major modes of shutter and aperture settings. Present in gallery format on your web site.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    3.3<\/strong> — Spring break<\/strong> – Topic of your choice, but the photos need to tell a story. Present in gallery format on your web site.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    3.4\u00a0<\/strong> –\u00a0 Outdoors \/ Landscape<\/strong>\u00a0 — <\/span>Get out in the landscape and take shots of nature and\u00a0 (if possible) people enjoying it.\u00a0 This is an aperture priority setting, so you can have long distances in focus.\u00a0 \u00a0 Present in gallery format on your web site.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
