Then they lay out their own legal argument in plain terms.\u00a0 It is best if they understand the material, speak informally, and do not simply read the brief.<\/p>\n<p>After both sides have spoken, the judge may ask questions. After that, the floor will be open to the members of the jury (the rest of the class) so that they also get a chance to ask questions.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, members of the jury will vote for the winning side, and this will add some points to the grade.<\/p>\n<p>Probably the best depiction of the US Supreme Court hearing an oral argument is in a movie called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_People_vs._Larry_Flynt\">The People versus Larry Flynt<\/a> (The main court scene is embedded on this page).\u00a0 Notice that Ed Norton (playing Alan Isaacman) summarizes the case and has to think quickly on his feet.\u00a0 He is not just reading a script.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ufeff The oral argument in Media Law Moot Court takes place in 5402, the fifth floor of Hemphill Hall, in the university&#8217;s moot court room.
