Usually these take four semesters to complete. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COMS 104 \u2014 Introduction to media writing <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COMS 204 \u2014 News reporting<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COMS 304 \u2014 Multi-Media Jopurnalism\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>COMS 381 &#8212; Student Media Practicum<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COMS 404 \u2014 Specialized reporting \/ Digital storytelling <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COMS 481 \u2014 Journalism practicum<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COMS 498 \u2014 Internship (optional)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>ABOUT JOURNALISM <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Journalism<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the reporting of news and public information for digital, print and broadcast outlets. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe purpose of journalism is to provide citizens with the information they need to make the best possible decisions about their lives, their communities, their societies, and their governments,\u201d said Bill Kovach and Tom Rosenstiel in their 2007 book, \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Elements-Journalism-Newspeople-Completely\/dp\/0307346706\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Elements of Journalism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The basic discipline of journalism involves separating accredited facts from opinions and accurately summarizing those facts in a written or broadcast report. This is an invaluable skill no matter where your professional life may take you. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>POLICIES<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Academic integrity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as pointed out in the Standards of Student Conduct, prohibits falsification, cheating, forgery, plagiarism and other dishonest academic practices. Penalties for major infractions may result in failure of the course or dismissal from the university. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Honor Code:<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By accepting admission to Radford University, each students makes a commitment to understand, support and abide by the University Honor Code without compromise or exception.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Attendance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Attendance counts towards your final score. Absence of more than 10 percent of classes will result in a reduction of your grade. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Late policy: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Late completion of projects will result in reduction of grade by one letter grade per week.
