The procedure is not complicated but it can be demanding.<\/p>\n
One of the best introductions to reporting is\u00a0“Getting the Story” — a training video produced by the International Center for Foreign Journalists<\/a>.\u00a0 The video takes us all the way through the process —\u00a0 from the reporter’s assignment through his work interviewing people, then writing the story,\u00a0\u00a0then editing and working with editors in the publication process.\u00a0 Getting the story also has a workbook at this location<\/a>.<\/p>\n In Getting the Story, you’ll notice that reporters take busses, use typewriters, and don’t have cell phones, but even so, the process is much the same as today.\u00a0 \u00a0Also note that the editor in the video is the much-admired\u00a0 Tewfik Mishlawi<\/a>, a Wall Street Journal reporter and editor from Lebanon who died in 2012.<\/p>\n
